Allergy Testing

Allergy Testing is performed to potentially identify specific environmental allergens that may be causing patients to suffer from allergies. Allergy skin tests are widely used to help diagnose allergic conditions, such as hay fever or allergic rhinitis caused by other environmental allergens.

Valley ENT Head & Neck Surgery now performs in office allergy testing and allergy injections.

During allergy skin tests, your skin will be exposed to suspected allergy-causing substances, called allergens, and then checked for signs of an allergic sensitivity. This test will take approximately 60-90 minutes. The test may cause only mild discomfort and is very well tolerated.

Before you leave our office, you will know the results of your skin prick test. A positive skin test means that you may be allergic to a particular substance and the findings will determine the degree of sensitivity. A negative skin test means that you probably aren’t allergic to that particular allergen.

With your test results, Dr. Robinson will identify your allergens and a treatment plan will be recommended to help reduce or get rid of allergy symptoms. This allergy treatment plan may include medicines, immunotherapy, and/or changes to your work/home environment. If immunotherapy (allergy shots) is the best treatment for your allergy symptoms, we can set up an appointment in our office for you to begin your course of treatment.
